Less paperwork around the patient, with doctors signing off every word

Hospitals and clinics spend a large share of staff time on documents: discharge summaries, insurance pre-authorisations, lab reports and appointment calls. AI helps most with drafting, sorting and answering routine questions, so nurses and front desk staff spend more time with patients. Diagnosis and treatment stay with the clinicians.

Where agents help

Five places to start in healthcare

Discharge summary drafts

Document extraction agent

The agent pulls the admission notes, procedures, medication chart and lab results into a draft summary in the hospital's format. The treating doctor edits and signs it before the patient leaves.

Insurance pre-authorisation packs

Document extraction agent

It gathers the policy details, doctor's notes and estimates a TPA asks for, checks nothing is missing and flags gaps to the insurance desk before the file goes out.

Patient queries on WhatsApp

Support agent

Visiting hours, OPD timings, report collection and appointment changes are answered from the hospital's own information. Anything clinical is passed to a nurse or the front desk.

Pending sign-off reminders

Approval reminder agent

Unsigned summaries, open consent forms and pending purchase approvals are tracked, and the right person gets a polite reminder before they hold up a discharge or an order.

Policy and SOP lookup for staff

Research assistant

Nurses and new joiners ask how a procedure is documented or which form applies, and get the answer from the hospital's own SOPs with the source page shown.

An example scenario

A 200 bed hospital's discharge desk

Discharges bunch up in the afternoon because summaries wait for a resident to type them. An agent drafts each summary from the electronic notes as soon as the doctor marks the patient fit for discharge. The resident checks the medicines and follow-up advice, corrects anything wrong and signs. Billing sees the signed summary at once and no longer has to chase the ward.

Illustrative example. It describes no real customer.

Data and rules to respect

  • Patient records are sensitive personal data under India's DPDP Act. Collect only what the task needs, record the purpose and keep consent records.
  • If the hospital is linked to the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), health record sharing follows its consent framework. The agent works within that framework.
  • Clinical judgement stays with registered medical practitioners. Drafts are labelled as drafts until a doctor signs them.
  • Private cloud or on premise deployment keeps patient data inside the hospital's own environment where policy requires it.
  • Security incidents are reported under the CERT-In directions, so logging is switched on from the first day.

A plain summary for general guidance. Your counsel gives legal advice and decides how these apply to you.

Questions

From healthcare teams

Will the agent suggest diagnoses or treatment?

No. We build agents for documents, queries and coordination. Anything that touches diagnosis or treatment is routed to a clinician, and drafts stay unsigned until a doctor approves them.

Can patient data stay inside our hospital?

Yes. AksharAI can run in your private cloud or on premise, and the model provider is chosen per project, including open models you host yourself.

Does it work with our HIS?

It connects through APIs or database adapters to most hospital information systems. Where an HIS has no API, our team builds an export or a small integration on 2good terms, paid after you accept the work.
